Education and Programs

Restoration, Preservation and Maintenance

Working side by side with volunteers on classic and/or historic vessels, our education curriculum is dictated with 'whats next' on the work list for that specific vessel. Subjects of recent projects include rigging, hull/frame preservation, onboard systems repair, engineering and our favorite, paint and varnish.

Internships, teaching and inspiring

Interns can learn during both the sailing summer season and winter maintenance season.  Many have gone on to be Engineers and Captains, AB's and Sailors around the world.  We work to place people in the right  programs with our partners.  With hands on education we work to promote many of the accredited maritime schools in the Northwest, and also include the much needed sea time for many people to thrive in a new career on the water.

Historical Navigation, Ship Safety and Environmental Stewardship

Traditional navigation skills involve learning to use binnacles, polaris, sextants, and more. Of course radar ranges and gps fixes are also great to practice at any age!  We love to teach inspiring marine biologists with the use of plankton nets, microscopes and our own ROV!  We have visions of you learning ship handling, sailing, basic navigation -including historical navigation (speed/chip log anyone?), and the always hard to teach in a classroom -teamwork!
